Bhagsu, Dharamshala

A retreat in the Himalayas

Our Dharamshala campus is in Upper Bhagsu, a short walk above Bhagsu Nag village near Beetroot Cafe and Kibbutz, on the path towards Bhagsu waterfall above McLeod Ganj. Retreats here are quieter and cooler than in Goa — mountain mornings, long afternoons for self-study, and evening meditation with the valley below. The teaching is multi-style: Hatha Alignment and Hatha Vinyasa Flow asana, pranayama, meditation and philosophy, from the same faculty that runs our 100, 200 and 300 hour trainings.

Why retreat with us in Dharamshala

In the heart of Bhagsu

Upper Bhagsu, a short walk above Bhagsu Nag village — near Beetroot Cafe and Kibbutz, on the path towards Bhagsu waterfall.

Himalayan quiet

Bhagsu sits in pine forest above McLeod Ganj, with mountain views, cool air and none of the beach-season noise — the calmer of our two campuses for meditation-heavy programs.

A genuinely multi-style practice

Hatha Alignment, Hatha Vinyasa Flow, pranayama, meditation and philosophy — retreats here sample the main streams of classical yoga rather than drilling one style.

All-inclusive, small groups

Accommodation, vegetarian meals and every session are included, and groups stay small so teachers can work with you individually.

I completed my 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training Courses with Alpesh Yoga, and it has been one of the most valuable experiences in my yoga journey. I initially joined as a regular student seeking relief from back pain and sinus issues. As my practice progressed, I experienced significant improvement in both, which inspired me to deepen my understanding of yoga and eventually pursue the teacher training courses. Looking back, I am extremely happy that I made that decision. What sets Alpesh Sir apart is his genuine dedication to his students. He pays close attention to alignment, technique, and understanding, and patiently explains concepts until students gain clarity and confidence. His teaching style is thorough, practical, and easy to understand, making even complex yogic concepts accessible. Along with Alpesh Sir, his team has also been incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. Together, they create a learning environment that is welcoming, professional, and encouraging. Beyond the physical practice of yoga, Alpesh Sir shares valuable insights, experiences, and yogic wisdom that help students understand the deeper essence of yoga and how to apply it in daily life. The classes are not only educational but also inspiring, encouraging personal growth, self-awareness, and a deeper connection to the practice. The training provided me with a strong foundation that has helped me build and teach my own yoga classes with confidence. His depth of knowledge, attention to detail, authenticity, and passion for teaching make him an exceptional teacher and mentor. I am truly grateful for everything I learned through Alpesh Yoga and would highly recommend the training to anyone looking to deepen their practice, improve their health, or become a knowledgeable and confident yoga teacher.

I can’t say enough good things about my time with the team at Alpesh Yoga. Sometimes it’s hard to find a teacher who is both technically brilliant and genuinely kind, but that’s exactly what you get here. I appreciated how much individual attention we received; it made the whole experience feel very personal. I’m heading home feeling refreshed, inspired, and deeply grateful for the lessons I learned on the mat. Whether you’re a beginner or a teacher, you’ll find something special here.

The place is really great! I love Alpesh’s classes , they are so nice and they helped me deepen my practice so much! If you are someone who really wants to work on yourself I think this is the place for it . The best part is they are in both mountains and beach cities so it’s a true blessing learning and being there around the lovely environment:)

What retreat guests say

The 5-day course gave me two different kinds of asana practice that complemented each other, plus pranayama.

FAQ

Common questions

  • The 8 Day Yoga & Meditation Retreat is the most complete option, with stay and meals included. The 50 Hour Intensive is the most demanding in the shortest time. If you want to focus on breathwork and meditation specifically, the 5 Day Pranayama & Meditation course goes deep into a single practice. The 5 Day Alignment Yoga Course runs at our Goa campus only.

  • Fly into Dharamshala (Gaggal) airport, or take an overnight bus from Delhi to McLeod Ganj. The shala is at Upper Bhagsu, near Beetroot Cafe and Kibbutz — we help every guest arrange the last leg.

  • Layers: a warm fleece or light down jacket for evenings, comfortable practice clothes, a reusable water bottle and good walking shoes for the village paths. Days are sunny and mild; nights get cold from November.

  • Dharamkot is one of India’s most established traveler villages and most of our guests arrive solo. You practice and stay within a small group, and our team is reachable on WhatsApp throughout.

  • The 5 Day Pranayama & Meditation course includes a certificate of completion from our Yoga Alliance registered school, but the retreats are not Yoga Alliance registered teacher trainings on their own. For a teaching credential, our 100, 200 and 300 hour courses in Dharamshala are the right path.
